On New Year’s Eve, I attended a beginner calligraphy class from the talented Taylor Lauren of Plume Noir Calligraphy.

Even though I love to write and doodle with curls, vines and flowers, learning the art of calligraphy was a bit challenging. Being introduced to the paper, the ink and the writing tool handles was an enlightening experience.

As of now, I am comfortable with using the oblique pen handle. I love the Tachikawa bib and the Oak Gall, Sumi and Walnut inks.

Just in a 2-hour session, I have learned so much from Taylor!

Taylor is very passionate and knowledgeable about the art of calligraphy. Her patience as an instructor is to be commended and I look forward to taking many more instructional classes from her.

Until my next class, it’s practice, practice, practice!
