A Physics Problem for Eleventh Graders and Quilters

A few days ago, my niece, Saylor was solving problems for a Physics class homework assignment. I glanced to see what she was working on and was surprised to see that one of her practice questions related to a spool of thread. A notion that quilters use everyday to create beautiful works of art.

Can you solve this problem?

Hmmm. I think I will just stick to quilting and leave Angular Kinematics to Saylor!
