A Quilt Inspired by Hope

Yesterday, I finished quilting my first Gee’s Bend inspired quilt, a milestone that represents far more than the completion of a project. During the Gee’s Bend Retreat in Jackson, Mississippi, November 2023, I had the privilege of meeting two extraordinary women, Mary Ann Pettway and China Pettway. They graciously signed this quilt, making it an even more treasured keepsake.

Listening to their stories of resilience, unwavering faith, enduring hope, and the love of God was one of the most meaningful experiences of my quilting journey. Their lives remind us that quilting is more than fabric and thread; it is a way of preserving history, expressing faith, and passing hope from one generation to the next.

As I guided this quilt through my Longarm, I reflected on the legacy these women have shared with the world. Every stitch became a reminder that quilts can tell stories, honor those who came before us, and inspire those who will come after us.

I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have met Mary Ann and China, to learn from them, and to carry a small part of their legacy forward through my own work.
