Having the bold courage to keep believing in change, unity, and progress even when circumstances seem discouraging.
Former President, Barack Obama used the phrase “The Audacity of Hope” to express the idea that people should have the courage to believe things can improve, even during difficult times.
The speech became famous after his keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention and later inspired his book, The Audacity of Hope.
I created this quilt during a Gee’s Bend Quilting Retreat in Jackson, Mississippi. I was deeply inspired by the life stories of Gee’s Bend quilters Mary Ann Pettway and China Pettway, and by their audacity of hope — the courage to believe that brighter days were ahead despite the hardships they faced growing up in the rural community of Gee’s Bend. Their journeys are a powerful testament to perseverance, resilience, and enduring hope through difficult times.
